Ode to SunnyDay Adult Day Health Care
At SunnyDay, we are like brothers and sisters, living happily and at ease. Every day, we learn to dance, enjoy Chinese opera, and sing beautiful music—old songs, new songs, Taiwanese songs and Japanese songs. We also discuss culture and morality and read the Bible. After playing eight rounds of mahjong, we can practice tai chi, baguazhang and Waidangong exercises. Free from worries and troubles, what a relaxed and carefree life we enjoy!
Playing table tennis, Chinese chess and computer games exercises both the body and the mind. Knitting, sketching, calligraphy and traditional Chinese painting refresh the spirit and cultivate our character. Gardening and photography allow us to gain new knowledge, build friendships and share enjoyable experiences. Each activity brings us its own special pleasure.
We have our blood pressure and blood sugar checked, while electrical therapy and hot compresses help improve circulation. The Open Heart Club teaches us about emotional well-being and ways to maintain good health, helping us feel happier and more at ease. Our nutritious breakfasts and lunches support good health and longevity so that we may enjoy a healthy, secure and fulfilling old age.
We also have the Elderly Community College, which provides tuition-free higher education. Every participant at the center may attend without charge. The courses cover different subjects and areas of specialization, with bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels. If we successfully complete our studies, we can put what we have learned into practice, serve others and contribute to society.
Every day, we can also go outdoors to relax. We admire the colorful flowers, listen to the birds and insects, and breathe deeply of the fresh air. How refreshing and delightful it is! How beautiful nature can be! Why remain trapped indoors, surrounded by worries, complaining endlessly and creating troubles for ourselves?
These are the many everyday experiences that make up life at SunnyDay Adult Day Health Care. Care and concern can be found everywhere, and everything we do benefits us. We older adults are truly blessed. We are also grateful for the public programs that have made these services possible, and we should never forget them.
Finally, I would like to thank everyone for your patience—and for enduring the ordeal of listening to me sing all the way to the end! Your enthusiastic applause has touched me so deeply that my eyes are filled with tears of gratitude.
